Market palace

Market day went well, we had heaps of people come in which was good as we were worried people would not be able to find us. To deal with that problem we had posters of our event around massey, the posters had tags for free goes on them, which we received a few of them today which is good. We also with the other groups had paw prints going towards the dark room and a big sign showing where it is.

We had a table at the beginning of our stall with three bottles as an example in it, there is a black light in it too so we put paper inside the empty bottles to make them glow. Above the three bottles are recipe cards for the punch that Hayley and I designed, so customers could see what flavor they won therefore change if they have allergies or else be able to remake the drink if they like it. There is an A3 instruction list in both corners of the table that Hayley made.
Above the our stall were 11 rows of 5 paper cups as decorations, Josh came up with the idea of fairy lights above us however we found the light neutralized the black light, therefore I looked into the paper cups posted earlier on. I couldn't find normal paper cups therefore I had to purchase plastic cups and stick paper on them, this turned out effectively glowing in the black light. On the wall next to us Josh came up with the idea of the stringy wall with white wool that glowed, which turned out very effectively. Izzy designed the shiny white Hoopla sign above the light box which was just high enough to get the dark light on it. There are three bottles on top of the table to show re use of decorations, one with notes in it (as posted earlier on in the blog) One with red roses in it (ties in with the wonderland group- painting white roses red) and one just to hold the hoops. We also had piles of the recipes that Hayley made.
We had a black curtain next to the stall which Izzy made and we all helped to place in the right area, it closes off the game space without hiding our stall which was good. Jarrod had the idea of a white crepe wall to create a walkway to help with the flow, We tried this out but all agreed this was too much, instead to create a flow we worked with the cat group on putting paw prints around the walkway of the room.
We all helped with the vinyl and the pulling the vinyl off of the bottles and jarrod and josh did the sandblasting for us all.
We made 95 drinkable bottles, (5 of them broke or leaked) however it was no enough for how popular the stall was, so we began running out at about 1 and ran out completely at 1:10pm

The stalls in the dark room all had minimum things to give at about one so we all decided to half the price of entry. With how popular our bottles were people kept coming in therefore we continued playing the game, by using previously sandblasted bottles and decorations bottles until they were all gone too, these games the bottles were not sanitized therefore each bottle one we explained how to sanitize if people wanted to re use to drink out of. All bottles were won none were left behind.

Setting up the room

We set up the dark room today, more to be posted tomorrow on everything. We discussed whether we wanted the white crepe paper curtain but decided against it here are some photos of the set up, more to be posted tomorrow on all of them

Music

We have been organising music with other dark room groups, Crytstal has made a spotify list for us which we have been adding music too. Since we are in the room we are away from all of the music in the great hall therefore the groups in the dark room thought its would be nice if we all contributed to a music playlist for the day

Punch flavours

Hayley izzy and I all helped to resolve the favourite punch flavours and tested them out on friends and family and from there got the final flavours
Lemon twist:
1/8th of lemon
10ml honey
240ml carbonated water
Orange and passion fruit:
20ml passionfruit syrup
20ml orange syrup
240ml carbonated water
Raspberry apple rhubarb
20ml rhubarb syrup
20ml apple syrup
10ml raspberry schweeps
The most popular we found was probably the orange followed closely by raspberry and then lemon

Punch/ soda flavour trialling with izzy

This afternoon izzy and I got together to trial some more punch flavours. From the critique we were asked if we had thought to use soda stream (which we hadn't) so we decided to give it a go with some non soda stream flavoured cordials.
First up we decided to give just plain old orange and barley ago. It was nice but nothing startling.

So we decided to add some passion riot syrup to it aswell. It was pretty legit. Just enough sweetness, but not too much like your drinking cordial or normal fizzy drinks.
Next we decided to give the apple and pomegranate ago. It was nice on the first couple of sips but we could tell a whole bottle of it would be way to sickly sweet.
Then we decided to give the rhubarb and infer flavour a go. It was pretty awesome but we decided it could possibly benefit from a little bit more sweetness.
So we combined the two together making a wonderful combination of rhubarb, ginger, apple and pomegranate.
From their we thought, why not go one step further and add a dash of raspberry cordial. It was just on the right side of sweet with a hint of tang. The flavours complimented each other beautifully.

Soda Stream

After our last discussion on Wesnesday we talked about potentally using soda stream instead of punch. I have found two Soda stream flavours I have (Coke and ginger beer), and a pack of different flavours which can produce one whole bottle each.
I think we should have a day when we test some of the soda stream flavours and our favourite two punch flavours to the public (set up a stall in massey) and then decide which to go with.
If we stay with the soda stream I think it would be a good idea to get the pack of multiple soda streams which costs $14.99, therefore there will be a larger variety and we will have plenty of syrups meaning I don't think we will run out.

Getting the larger bottles cost around 7 dollars each for the normal ones i.e. cola, lemonade etc, however the special ones i.e. Margarita and ginger beer can cost 9 dollars each.

The taste pack cost 14.99 where there is: Cola, Orange, Lemonade, Raspberry, Summer lemon, Cream soda, tonic, Xtreme energy, Diet cola, Cola sugar free, Cranberry Raspberry and Lemonade.
Another idea is also to mix our punch flavors izzy and Hayley made with the soda stream, this needs to be tested

The trial of the punch

On Sunday Izzy and I purchased several mixers to concoct a few punches. We ended up choosing Grapefruit juice as a base flavour for one punch and cranberry for another. Apple juice was also used in both as a base but more as a fuller more then for flavouring. After a few trial and errors we came up with two flavours we thought were good enough to trial on Wednesday.

Week 2-3 Posters of ideas for market palace

Hanging lights got the most votes, to build your own unique hanging light to take home. Targeted at students for cheap unique ways of decorating their flats.
Build your own Terrarium got the second most votes, this idea will be making terrariums out of recycled bottles.
Make a wish got the least vote, to make a wish put it in a jar with 'fairy dust,' and other little bits and pieces.
This would be done as a experiment like the ice challenge on Facebook. For a while it will be donating to charity, we take a picture and connect it to social media, and then after have it just for the donation to  charity. Will this make a difference? or is donating now for 'self' purposes.
